日本語で、地球に一番近い星は？と質問すると、

答えはいろいろ。

金星かなぁ？火星かなぁ？　という人がいたり、

月？　という人がいたり。

金星、火星の場合は the closest PLANET （惑星）

月　は、衛星。

太陽は恒星。

日本語の質問では、惑星も衛星も恒星も "星” なので、

正解は「月」ということになるでしょうか？

でも、英語で

Which star is the closest to the earth? と聞かれたら、

答えは ”The sun"

こういう質問の場合、

star って、恒星に限定されるんですね。 

日本語と英語のずれを見ることができるいい例だと思います。

やっぱり、英語は英語で学ばなきゃ。

そして、使用しているワークブックにあった文が

"The earth is not a star."

地球は恒星ではなく惑星、planet ですね。
